September 2007 Stang of the month: Chris Matters, 2005 Mustang Speedlabs Saleen |
| |
|

|
I met up with Chris while on vacation down in Virginia. He seemed very excited to be running a vehicle testing parts for JDM that will be on the market next season. Currently Chrisran a 11.97 @ 113.9 mph at the 2007 Peach State FFW Nationals in a Team JDM Saleen-supercharged Mustang video. He expects too break low elevens before the end of the season. Chris figures some fine tuning with the SCT tuning software and adjusting new components to put the power to the ground wil bring the low elevens to him.
There is a laundry list of parts on his Saleen some released to the consumer market and some not. Chris has been running hitting the roads and running national NMRA and Fun Ford Weekend events all year.
Chris was an all around nice guy. I will be bold a predict 10s next season out of bolt-ons and tuning. Good luck Chris.

August 2006 Stang of the month: Mike. "mustang35thann" 1999 Mustang GT 35th Anniversary Edition |
|
 |
Mike purchased this1999 Mustang GT, 35th anniversary limited edition model new from Cristo Ford in Rochester after graduating from RIT. At the time he had not intentions of modifying the car, just to drive and enjoy cruising in a mustang. Soon he found out that that his car was on of 515 made and with the options it was 1 of 69 of it's kind.
His career took him to Massachussetts where he quickly picked up drag racing from his, and he hates to say this, F-body friends. He installed a full exhaust, gears, tune and some suspension work in his first season where the stang cut well over a second off the quarter mile time and went 14.3.
Well, it's all been down hill from there. His best time thus far is a 12.911 at 104.590 mph. This year he's cutting weight by going with sheet metal valve covers and a full set of wheels and tires - skinnies up front and ET streets in the rear. Finally, the A/C is going to be removed to cut some more weight. If it gets hot he will just put the top down.
Check out the full list of modifications which have been done over the past few years. Pictures were taken at Nahant Beach, north of Boston, Ma. This is truely a nice Mustang and needs to be see in person to truely appreciate.

June 2006 Stang of the month: Sherry. "BLKDIAMOND" 2006 Mustang GT |
|
 |
Sherry's 2006 GT has a 3 valve 4.6 L with a 5 speed standard tranny. The Polished 18" wheels were an add on. The pin stripes and logo are hand painted. Her steed is named BLK Diamond.
She is still looking into up grades that won't affect the warranty. Some things down the line could be gears, shifter, custom tune, and who knows what else. Basically any to go fast!
Sherry works in Quality Control at a medical products co. She has two daughters ages 12 & 16 and no, the 16 year old is not getting behind the wheel of her stang anytime soon. Stained / leaded glass is her best hobby for which she creates her own drawings. (I enclosed a photo of my lastest work).
Sherry has alot of energy and enjoys water sports along with just about anything outdoors: scuba diving, tent camping, hiking etc. She like motorcycles, ski mobiles, quads, anything fast.

April 2006 Stang of the month: Steve. "Steve " 1966 Mustang Coupe |
|
 |
This '66 Coupe is sporting a 327 stroker, scat crank, H-beam rods, Ross pistons 9.0/1 comp. Edelbrock VictorJr. aluminum heads, comp cams XE274 hydraulic roller camshaft, 1.6 roller rockers and springs to match the cam, Mac long tube headers backed by dual 2.5" magnaflow exhaust system. The intake is n Edelbrock Victor Jr topped by a Barry Grant carburator.
Steve has a built C4 with a aftermarket torque converter. He has done a light build up on the rearend by installing a Ford 9" housing and components with 3:90 gears. Over the winter he upgraded to disc brakes...woowoo. At least he will be able to stop now.
Also over the winter the front end was rebuilt with all new suspension components. Steve runs Nitto drag radials on the Stang to help control some of the traction loss issues.
Last season with he ran a best of 12.5 @ 108MPH. He also has been helping several folks from POPS Racing and ROCS finest Ponys with their Mustangs. He is probably the most reasonable mechanic in the Rochester area. He has done several motor swaps to brakes to supercharger installations. All in all he's just a Ford nut.

March 2006 Stang of the month: Adam M. "Adam" 1995 Mustang Cobra |
|
 |
This '95 Cobra is sporting a 393 stroker motor, scat crank, H-beam rods, JE pistons 9.4/1 comp. Brodix Track 1 215 CNC aluminum heads, Meziere electric water pump, comp cams camshaft, comp cams stainlesssteel rockersand beehivesprings, Kooks stainless steel long tube headers backed by a dual 3" magnaflow dumped system. The intake is a Trickflow R, a lightning mass air meter and an SCT custom tuned chip.
Last season ran with a TKO 600 transmission but have now converted to a built AOD with manual ARTCARR valvebody with transbrake. 9.5" precision torque convertor and a aluminum driveshaft. Built up the rearend over the winter, now have a straightened and welded 8.8 with extra bracing. Inside the housing is 31 spline superior axles, torsion differential,3:73 FMS gearset, and 3" wheelstuds ready for slicks sometime this season.
The suspension utilizes stock cobra springs, strange 10 way adjustable struts and shocks. Rearupper and lower contro arms, megabyte jrs. 17*10.5s on the rear with 315/35R17 Nitto drag radials..
Last season with old motor combo and 5 speed the cobrar ran a 11.68@117.2 MPH with a 1.62 60 foot. Thanks to many hours of help from Steve, Rick (RV Engines), and Bob W. the car is together and runs strong. Rumor has it that some changes are in the works sometime this season. Apparently Adam needs to keep Dave "POP" in his rear view mirror.

February 2006 Stang of the month: Matt H. "IDAREU2" 1988 Mustang GT |
|
 |
This '88 Mustang Gt, 331ci, scat crank, H-beam rods, ross pistons 12.5/1 comp. Twisted Wedge 202/160 alluminum heads, Kooks long tube headers(notice the spelling) with 3" Kooks exhaust, Victor Jr intake with spider upper, with 175hp of nitrous, C-4 trans with brake, 10.5" tire,35 spline axles, c-clip eliminaters, with 410 gears. Runs best of 6.24 in the 1/8. Front coil overs, rear drag shocks with air bags. Nos Bigshot system. Full interior with race seats. This season he's looking to run between 9.6-9.8 in the 1/4.Matt has been a member of Mustangs of Mayhem for a couple years.
Best 60' without brake 1.38 this year will be leaving on the brake looking for low 1.20's. 6.24s in the 1/8 and looking for 6.0's in 1/8 and somewhere in the 9.6-9.8 in the 1/4. Quoting Matt "Team50 will continue to chase this little 331 ci 88 GT"
From the sounds of I suspect a grudge match lining up between "Team50Shop" and him.

|
 |
| This ‘95 cobra has a 302 with forged pistons in it and when refreshed left stock bore. It has TFS heads w/upgraded springs, roller rockers, TFS pushrods, an Anderson B4 blower cam, TFS track heat intake, 75mm TB, 42# injectors with a 92mm Pro-M mass air, elec.water pump, a Vortech Ys-Trim with a custom water to air aftercooler system. The Tranny is a Art Carr Pro Comp C4 with a 3500 stall, Transbrake, reverse manual valvebody linked via a B&M pro rachet shifter. It has a Motorsports alum. driveshaft. The rear end is a 355 gear (410's was to much for it) it has a spool with C-clip eliminators, 31 spline race axles.
Ok onto the chassis; it has 90/10 drag struts with coilovers, tubular K-member, Manual steering rack, subframe connectors, double adjustable rear uppers, adj. rear lowers with weight jackers. It has a Black Widow body kit on it with a saleen S351 wing, a 5 1/2 extended cowl hood.
Tunning is done via a Anderson PMS and WB for data logging and a Pro-M chip but soon to be a SCT chip( I just lucked into a Pro racer package...Thanks Adam)
That's about it. Sad thing is that motors coming out and a 408 is going in after I just got everything fabbed to fit right. Thanks for checking out my Stang it my true passion. One day i'll get over on the East coast and race with you guys.
